Miles Coverdale Primary School

Welcome to Year 2!

English - During our literacy lessons we will be learning about poetry and stories with familiar settings.  We will write our own minibeast poems and we will also write and act out stories.  Children in Year 2 need to read every day as an integral part of developing a home study routine.  Books are borrowed from the classroom every day and should travel to and from school in a bookbag.

Reading Groups run from 9.10 - 9.40am every morning.  If you would like to volunteer to help with these sessions, please speak to the class teacher.

Maths - We will be learning about counting, operations, ordering numbers, shapes and measuring.  We will sing songs and play games to help us remember our counting patterns, months of the year and number facts.  We will use a variety of equipment to help our learning.

Humanities - Year 2 will be learning about black history and famous people, like Mary Secole.

Science - Minibeasts and Materials.

Music - We will learn how to play the recorder with Mr Athill.  We will also be performing at Assemblies and special events, like the Black History Production.

P.E. – We will need our PE kits every Wednesday and Thursday.  Our PE kits should contain shorts, a t-shirt, trainers and clean socks.

Homework - Homework will be given out every Friday and must be returned to school by the following Wednesday.  Each week's homework will be placed in homework books.  There will be a spelling test of common words every Friday (lists will be in Homework books each week).

If you have any problems or queries, please do not hesitate to speak to the class teachers.
