Miles Coverdale Primary School

Welcome to Year 4!

Topics for Learning
Year 4 will be doing Reading Groups from 9 – 9.30am each morning. We will be writing poetry and stories that are set in histrorical settings this term. In History we will be studying the Romans and this will also link with our English writing. In Science we are learning about how our bodies move and grow. During Mathematics we will be learning about addition, multiplication, shapes and measurement.

Homework and Home Reading
Your child will take their homework home each Friday. It is to be completed and returned by the following Wednesday for checking.

Children in Year 4 need to read every day as an integral part of their home study routine. Books borrowed from the classroom should travel in a bookbag for safekeeping. Please return all books to the classroom for changing as soon as they are finished.

P.E.
Year 4 will be having P.E. on a Friday. Only half the class will be having P.E. each week. Each group will be informed of the week they are being taken out. Swimming will commence half way into the Spring term.

PUNCTUALITY and ABSENCE
The bell rings each morning at 8.50am. Year 4 children are to line up in the Junior Playground for collection. The register is marked as soon as we get to class and any children who arrive late will need to report to the Administration Office.

The children can be collected from the Junior Playground at 3.15pm each afternoon. We greatly appreciate children being collected promptly at the end of the day. Please advise one of the adults if your collection arrangements change.

In the event of an absence, please advise the office as soon as possible (telephone number: 020 8743 5847). It is advisable to plan family holidays outside of term times so that your child does not miss important content.

School Uniform
Please ensure your child is wearing the correct school uniform each day. This includes a white or purple top, a purple cardigan or jumper, black or grey trousers and black shoes. Wearing correct school uniform is particularly important if the class is going out on a trip.

If you would like to arrange a meeting to discuss your child, please do not hesitate to contact me to make an appointment for a convenient time. If you are unable to meet in person, feel free to write in your childs home reading diary and I will respond in writing. I thank you for your support and am greatly looking forward to a happy and productive year with your child.
